You can QUIT…We can help. Your decision to quit is the most important ingredient for success. But it’s not unusual for people who want to quit smoking to slip up on the first or second try. In fact, four out of five smokers try several times before they can quit for good. So don’t give up hope…you can do it! While quitting smoking is difficult for everyone, people who have a plan and get support are more likely to be successful. It helps to understand that quitting is a step-by-step process. It’s not something you should do on a whim or a dare. In fact, studies show that people who take part in programs to quit smoking have a better chance of succeeding. The Michigan Tobacco Quitline program provides a personal health coach who will work with you on the telephone in the comfort of your own home or office to develop your personal plan for success! Your coach will help you gain the motivation and confidence you need to quit for good. You’ll start by setting a quit date. You’ll learn how to break down the quitting process into manageable pieces and you’ll gain strategies to deal with difficult situations and roadblocks. You will also learn more about the benefits of medication to help you quit, and determine if it’s right for you. How does the program work? Calling the toll-free number will put you in touch with an experienced Health Coach who will begin by reviewing your smoking history, habits and goals. You may be enrolled in a telephone support program that fits your needs or a self-directed approach with limited support. After your initial interview you will receive a quit kit with useful information to reinforce everything you learn during the coaching sessions. Your next coaching call(s) will occur shortly after your quit date to provide support during the most difficult time. Your health coach will keep in touch throughout the program, and you’ll also have access to your coach anytime, any day, by calling the toll-free support line. What supporting materials are used? The Tobacco Cessation Workbook; 24/7 access to toll-free support line for both program options; A squeeze in a replica of $100 bill, cinnamon mints and a refrigerator magnet. Quitting offers plenty of benefits. Seventy percent (33 million) of the 47 million people who smoke say they want to stop. Here are a few reasons why: To reduce the risk of serious illness To improve general well-being To protect family and friends from the dangers of secondhand smoke To feel more comfortable in smoke-free places To be free from the smell of smoke To save money spent on tobacco products |
