2005 MDCH Director's Award to Local Public Health

The Marquette County Health Department has received an MDCH Director's Award!

MDCH (the Michigan Department of Community Health) provides monetary acknowledgements in the amounts of $5000, $3000 and $1500 to three recipients each year.  The recipient of the $5000 award also receives a commemorative plaque and hosts the Director's Award traveling trophy for 1 year.  This year that recipient is the Marquette County Health Department!

The Director's Award was established in 1983 and is awarded annually to local health departments for programs that demonstrate innovation and excellence in public health.

The Marquette County Health Department was chosen due to its local media campaigns to reduce smoking rates in Marquette County which have accounted for a drop in tobacco use of 30% for youths and a 25% drop in adults.
