Water Supply |
The water supply program is broken into the Type II, and Private / Type III water supplies. Type II water supplies, also called non-community supplies include water wells which serve schools, restaurants, motels, gas stations, and many other businesses. Type III water supplies are those that serve more than one living unit, but serve fewer individuals than Type II supplies.
The Marquette County Environmental Health Code requires a permit for the construction or major alteration of water wells. Water wells are constructed in accordance with Michigan's Water Well Construction Code, Part 127, Act 368, P.A. 1978. Only well drillers registered with the State of Michigan may install water wells, although a homeowner can install a well on the property of his/her primary residence.
The law requires the well driller to supply the local health officer and well owner with a well log within 60 days after the completion of the well. The well log provides details on the soil and rock types the well was drilled through, water production, grouting, pump type, and well permit number, etc. Please call this department if you do not receive a well log or pump record from your contracted well driller.
