| The Division of Environmental Health at the Marquette
County Health Department frequently receives questions regarding
requirements for opening or remodeling a food establishment.
The EH Division's staff has many combined years of experience in plan review, and can help you plan your restaurant operation to achieve good sanitation. Remember, your customers are counting on you to provide high quality, safe food! All establishments, even simple ones, must go through a fixed food establishment plan review first. It amounts to the submission of detailed, scaled drawings of the entire building including electrical, plumbing and mechanical systems. Specification sheets for all proposed equipment must also be provided. Much of this information is available from manufacturers on the web. Michigan prefers NSF or UL approved equipment because it has been tested and certified. The Marquette County Health Department has a local plan review fee for new establishments of $500. An annual licensing fee would be prorated for the year, and due with a license application upon completion of plan approval and a pre-opening inspection. The pre-opening inspection is performed to insure the establishment is constructed in accordance with your approved plans.
