ATTENTION: If you are undertaking an earth change that disturbs one acre (43,560 square feet) or greater for construction, or is within 500 feet of a lake or a stream, you will need to apply for and receive a soil erosion permit before construction begins. Please contact the Marquette County Conservation District (1030 Wright St. in Marquette) at 226-2461 for more information or to obtain a soil erosion permit application.
Materials For Construction
Sewer lines
: The building sewer between the building and the septic tank including those under the building slab must be schedule 40 plastic piping or other approved material (cast iron). Approved plastic piping has been tested and approved by the American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM) and will be marked with the ASTM acronym followed by one of the following: on PVC or Polyvinyl Chloride pipe D 1785, on ABS or Acrylonitrile -Butadiene- Styrene pipe D 1527-, D 266- or F628-, on PE or Polyethylene pipe D 2447-, D2104-, and on CPVC or Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride pipe F441. The year in which the pipe was manufactured is commonly suffixed after the ASTM designation (i.e. ASTM D 1527-99).Effluent Lines: The transport line between the septic tank and the absorption field shall be approved Schedule 40 plastic pipe. Approved plastic pipe will be marked with ASTM followed by one of the following: for PVC or Polyvinyl Chloride pipe D 2729, D 3034, F 758, F 789, F 891, or F 949, for ABS or Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene pipe D 2680, or D 2751, for SR or Styrene Rubber pipe D 2852, or F405, and for PE or Polyethylene pipe F 810. Plastic pipe in these categories are commonly called thin wall plastic pipe. If a outlet filter is being used in the septic tank, schedule 40 plastic is recommended by the filter manufacturer (see above list).
Absorption system tile lines: Approved perforated plastic piping will be marked with ASTM followed with one of the following: for PVC or Polyvinyl Chloride pipe D 2729, or F 891, for ABS or Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene pipe D 2751, for SR or Styrene Rubber pipe F 405, and for PE or Polyethylene pipe F 810.
Absorption system aggregate
(stone) shall be washed stone from ½ " to 2½ " in diameter.Aggregate Cover (soil barrier) shall be an approved filter fabric or a minimum of 6 inches of hay or straw over the aggregate.
