How to Prevent Animal Bites
With the summer months upon us we see an increase in the number of animal bites reported to the division of environmental health. All dogs in the county should be on a leash and/or under their owners control at all times, both on and off their premises. Many bite situations occur when people allow their dogs to run loose. Children are especially vulnerable as they will often approach a stray dog and try to pet it. Even the family pooch may become cranky and irritable if it is hot and muggy and he cant tell you he doesnt want to play or have his ears pulled.
Teach your children not to approach a stray animal (no matter how cute or cuddly it looks) and do not try to "save" wild animals such as baby raccoons, squirrels, etc. It is better for your safety and the animals safety to call your local police agency for assistance or the Marquette County Humane Society who have trained staff on hand.
Also, be kind to your animal and do not leave it in a closed vehicle, even with the window cracked open.. The temperature very quickly rises in an enclosed area and an animal can suffer from heat stroke.
